Boilers provide an efficient and convenient way to heat a house. Boiler installation costs will vary based on several factors. The model of the boiler and whether or not the old boiler needs to be removed will both affect the cost of labor. Switching from an oil boiler to a gas boiler can also lead to a more expensive installation. The cost of installing a boiler can range from around $3,000 to over $7,000. Boilers can last for approximately fifteen to twenty years. Considering advancements in technology, it may be desirable to switch to a newer, more efficient model of boiler even if your old boiler is still working.

Why Replace a Boiler?

There are different reasons why you may need or want to replace your boiler. Your boiler model may be old. Hence, your boiler may be costing you money by not being as energy efficient as a newer model. It may also not have smart control features, which allow you to remotely manage it. Your old model may be too loud and keeping you up at night. It may not be cost effective to have to repair a boiler frequently, so you may need to replace your old boiler if you are frequently calling in technicians to repair it.  Many newer models, in addition to being energy efficient, are also more space efficient. Installing a newer model of boiler may not only save you money, but space as well.

Installation Process

The process of installing a boiler can take more than one day. The technician will need to inspect gas lines. Keep in mind that the removal and installation of boilers may be regulated by your city or town and so you may need to receive a permit from your city to remove and install a boiler. Moreover, depending on the size of the boiler, you may be required to comply with other agencies, such as the Department of Environmental Protection. It is important to work with an experienced technician, as they will be familiar with local, state, and federal permit requirements. Many states require that technicians who replace and install boilers be licensed or certified. Some states may also regulate the type of boiler you can install.

Because the process of installing a boiler can take longer than a day, some technicians will install a temporary boiler for the household to have hot water. Some boiler installation companies work with specific boiler models while other companies will have a large selection of boilers to select from. Check with the technicians, or with the manufacturer, to see if there are any rebates on your new model. Not all companies offer rebates, but some occasionally do.

You can always request a quote from installers like Boiler Services, Inc. to learn more about the cost of installing a boiler. Most boiler installation companies will provide you with a quote free of charge. Checking the rating of the installation company with the Better Business Bureau is also a good idea.
